PulsePointe barre Technique Tip - First Position
First position is one of the fundamental exercises in a PulsePointe barre class. In fact, we think it is so important, it is the first thing we do when we get to the barre! First Position works your quadriceps, glutes, calves, abdominals, and external rotator muscles.
When performing exercises in first position, there are a few key things to keep in mind.
1) Always make sure you keep your chest lifted and your shoulders relaxed down and away from your ears to maintain a tall spine.
2) Pull your public bone towards your belly button slightly and tuck your tailbone underneath you (just a hair) to maintain a neutral pelvis.
3) Keep knees tracking in the same direction as your second biggest toes to protect your knee joints.
4) Press your heels together firmly to help activate your glutes and external rotator muscles.
The first position choreography options are endless, but here is one of our favorite segments incorporating some passe work! For more choreography ideas, check out our PulsePointe barre In Action page or follow us on facebook or instagram @PulsePointebarre.
